This is an article from a blog on the web done by Simone Elkeles.

Girls can teach us a lesson in sportsmanship!

My daughter is the ice hockey goalie on two teams - a coed team and an all-girls team.
This is the picture of the all-girls team

When my daughter "the goalie" lets a puck slide past her there are very different responses from the boys on her coed team vs. the entire girls' team.

Here is just one example of what they've said:

Boys' response: "You suck."
All Girls' team response: "That's okay. Don't worry about it at all. We're just glad you're here!" and they go up to her and give her support by tapping their hockey gloves on hers. I've noticed the boys usually do this when a player makes a goal.

These girls have displayed the best sportsmanship out of anyone I've ever met - whether they're adults or kids. Dare I say they act better than I would in the situation.

And get this: I believe they've never once won a game.

A referee told our coach that he loves reffing (is that a word??) the all girls team because from the beginning to the end of the game they have smiles on their faces no matter if the score is 15-0.

When I asked a parent why they're so upbeat the parent said, "These girls are just happy to be on the ice and play."

My heart goes out to the Lady Renegades and I'm hoping they can win a game or two before the season ends. You ladies are tough chicks, and are playing in a coed league with kids twice the size of you. I am in awe of these girls...and to be honest, I'm in awe of their parents as well. Their yelling of support to each and every player unconditionally actually humbles me and makes me a better person.
