Importance of Ice Maintenance

We sincerely value our community's use of our rinks and the shared commitment to maintaining them as safe and enjoyable spaces for everyone. To ensure the quality and safety of the ice for all users, consistent and thorough ice maintenance is critical. This involves tasks such as measuring and recording ice thickness, edging, shaving, and adding water to maintain the ideal ice condition. Proper ice thickness reduces wear and tear on key systems, including compressors, HVAC units, the rink infrastructure, and the ice resurfacer. This not only improves safety and quality for users but also allows us to provide reliable, high-quality ice while conserving energy.

A less visible but essential aspect of ice maintenance is air quality management. After 2–3 hours of ice work, the building's HVAC system must restore safe air conditions for patrons. Safety remains our top priority, which is why the rink may occasionally appear unused following maintenance...we're just preparing for our next users.
